The vegetable garden which includes the summer house/tool shed and two poly tunnels are part of our shared communal space. This space was originally created as the Breathing Space project (see separate web page for more information). This part of the grounds is used in many ways like a traditional allotment site. For house members who want to grow fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for themselves there is outside growing space and a portion of poly-tunnel space. Each person works their own patch and works together with others when necessary on tasks such as compost preparation and path maintenance.
For the most enthusiastic gardeners among us (and who are available on weekdays) we have half day gardening sessions where we work together on the numerous garden jobs that are needed to keep the vegetable garden and poly tunnels in good condition.
There are also apple trees in other parts of the ground; the harvest from these is shared amongst everyone.
